Mananthavady
Mananthavady is a small town on the
banks of the Kabini River in the Wayanad
district of Kerala, India. This area was
once ruled by the Pazhassi dynasty and the tomb of Pazhassi Raja is an important tourist place here.
Valliyoorkav
This Temple
is dedicated to Mother Goddess and is worshipped in three principal forms of Vana Durga, Bhadrakali and Jala Durga It is the
most important place of worship for the tribal communities. The annual 15 day festival is in March/April and is the most grand
of all festivals in the district. Slave trade used to take place here during the festival. It is still the largest congegation
of all tribals of Wayanad.
Thirunelly Temple
This 3000 years old temple dedicated to Vishnu has 30 granite columns to shield it. The Papanashini stream is nearby.
There is an aqueduct from the Papanashini to the temple to have Papanashini water for the temple use right in its precincts.
On the southern side of the temple there is a pond called Panchatheertha where five rivers used to meet in the past. In the
summer the pond is waterless. Usually the pond is covered by dense undergrowth. A mound is seen in the centre of the pond
on which a stone slab with the imprint of Vishnu’s feet is also seen.
Thodeekulam Siva Temple
A prevalent belief relates the existence of
this ancient Siva Temple
to over 2000 years ago. The Pazhassi Raja family is said to have had close associations with this temple. It is situated about
34 km southeast off Kannur and 2 km from Kannavam on the Thallssery-Mananthavady road.

marvellous carvings which are said to be 400 years old. This is one of the important ancient temples in Malabar situated in

River’ on whose beautiful banks stands the famous Sri Muthappan Temple
